Anaerobic digestion is a naturally occurring process by which microorganisms break down biodegradable material in the absence of oxygen. During this process, some organic compounds such as livestock manure, food processing wastes and crop residues are converted to methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) gases. This mixture of gases is known as biogas. Biogas can generate electricity and heat. The process is used for industrial or domestic purposes to manage waste and/or to produce fuels. Separated digested solids can be composted, utilized for dairy bedding, directly applied to cropland or converted into other products. Nutrients in the liquid stream are used in agriculture as fertilizer. This gives Par-Two Farm an alternative option to land applying the product.
